Our Deep Diver Course is a must for divers wishing to explore a little more, go a little deeper, and learn the risks and benefits associated with deep diving. Some of Gozo’s iconic dive sites, including the world-famous shipwreck MV Karwela, require diving to depths beyond open water diver training limits.
This course provides the necessary training to plan and safely execute dives up to a maximum depth of 40 metres. By the end of the course your overall dive skills, knowledge, awareness, and comfort level will have improved significantly.
This course can be conducted in backmount or sidemount and can be taken in conjunction with our Recreational Sidemount Course if you are not yet Sidemount certified. Redundancy, increased gas supply and easy access to both cylinders make sidemount a great option for deeper dives. A properly trained sidemount diver’s buoyancy and stability improve the all-important descents, ascents and team protocols resulting in safer dives.

This course is a specialty course that will meet and exceed all minimum agency standards. You will gain knowledge both theoretical and practical that will provide you with the strongest base skill set from which you can grow and continue with your diving journey.Upon completion of this Deep Diver course in Gozo, you will be certified to conduct no-decompression dives to depths up and not exceeding 40 metres.

In recreational diving, any dive deeper than 18 metres and not exceeding 40 metres is considered a deep dive. Specialist technical training is required to dive beyond these limits.
The Deep Diving course is for divers wishing to learn new skills and explore deeper sites. Some of the best dive sites are beyond the depth of 30 metres and require deeper diving skills.
Deep diving within non decompression limits and not exceeding 40 metres in depth are considered recreational diving. Technical Diving often exceeds recreational depths and requires planned decompression.
Sidemount is a perfect configuration for deep diving. Redundancy, increased gas supply, and easy access to both cylinders makes sidemount a greater and safer option for deeper dives.
No specialist equipment is required for dives within no decompression limits and not exceeding 40 metres, however, the risks of deep diving should be considered when choosing equipment.
Decompression sickness, nitrogen narcosis and increased gas consumption are some of the risks associated with deep diving. Specialist training is required to mitigate these risks and increase diver safety.

The depth of a dive with nitrox depends on the percentage of oxygen in the gas mix. In recreational diving, this amounts for anything between 22% and 40%.
Although prerequisites may vary, most certifying agencies require divers to be at least Advanced Open Water or equivalent before enrolling in a deep diving course.
